Season IX: Ben Arrona, owner, Benny's Pizza, San Luis Obispo, CA

Ben Arrona is the mastermind behind Benny’s Pizza, a takeout-only joint that sells Detroit-style pizza in San Luis Obispo. But while his pizza is outrageously delicious, Ben’s life holds multitudes of other interests and experiences: criminal justice, the Holocaust, the service industry, oil, Islam, New York City, and more. He has a tailor in Colombia who makes him bespoke suits. He’s writing a dissertation on global and imperial history at Oxford. And he was once a probation officer. I’m telling you, this guy’s life reads like a novel. It takes a while for us to come around to the food conversation, but the journey is worthwhile.
