Season IX: Brent Burchett + Kiah Twisselman Burchett, SLO County Farm Bureau + life coach, Carissa Plains, CA

This episode of Consumed is a two-fer. When I sat down with Brent Burchett, executive director of the San Luis Obispo County Farm Bureau, I didn’t realize he’d bring his wife, Kiah Twisselman Burchett, a sixth generation California cattle rancher. You’ll hear Brent’s Kentucky roots right away in his accent. He moved to California’s Central Coast to advocate for local farmers, protecting and promoting agricultural interests in San Luis Obispo County with the Farm Bureau. Back home in Kentucky, he met Kiah — a Central Coast native, and part of the Twisselman family that ranches in the easternmost part of San Luis Obispo County. But Kiah is probably best known for her media appearances in People Magazine, Access Hollywood, the Kelly Clarkson Show and others, having lost 125 pounds and becoming a life coach for folks who want to take charge of their mental, emotional, and physical health. (To see just how much people resonate with her, check out her instagram account at CoachKiah.) Here, Brent and Kiah connect on their love for agriculture, their shared ability to hear where people are coming from, and their desire to effect change at a high level.

Honey Horns

These are one of Kiah’s favorite treats that her dad, Joel, makes. The original recipe comes from the Betty Crocker Cookbook.
