Season IX: Jeff, Lindsay, + Jade Jackson, restaurateurs + singer-songwriter, The Range, Santa Margarita, CA

Jeff and Lindsay Jackson opened The Range restaurant in Santa Margarita in the mid-2000s, and since then it’s become one of my all-time favorite places to dine out. The Range has this wonderful combination of hifalutin and honky tonk that can only be experienced to understand. The food is like what you’d find in a good French bistro, but then you look up at the walls and see LPs of Dolly Parton and Hank Williams hanging there. It’s confusing in the best possible way. Even better: one of their daughters, Jade Jackson, is a signed and touring musician, singer and songwriter that more than one major publication has called country-rock’s next big thing. When she’s not touring, she’s working at the restaurant with her dad, mom, and brother Cheyne, who studied at the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York. Jeff and Lindsay’s other daughter, Audrey, studies art and makes music in Pasadena, California. The Jackson family also owns Rosalina, a cantina right down the street in Santa Margarita. We talked about music, farm food, Jeff and Lindsay’s love for old things and old ways, and leaving a legacy.
